Intro to... CCR
While throughout this blog we've explained our personal experiences, heres a bit of insider from a technical perspective, using a fancy term known as "CCR"
1- Our advertisement possibly goes against standard conventions, as it doesn’t include an animated closeup of the specific gum at the end of the commercial as traditional advertisements our group had analyzed include. Instead, we include a close-up shot of the pack of gum which we physically recorded ourselves by hand, in order to maintain the persistent flow of the ads. We do, however, also feature several elements that are typical of the typical gum commercial. One being the bonding of a social group or pair together which frequently appears in these advertisings. They symbolize the universal problem of encountering barriers when socializing and offer a solution through the gum, allowing the gum to stand in for a common ground that all parties may bond over. We incorporated this concept into our commercial by demonstrating how two school partners on a photography assignment were able to ease tensions and become friends by sharing a gum pack.
2- By bring our audience through a story, our product engages them. It draws the audience's attention at first by establishing a narrative, then it gradually introduces what is being advertised to them. For distribution, we might use platforms like Instagram or YouTube as channels to promote our commercial. Younger generations, who are the target audience for our commercial as they’re most likely to want gum, are most likely to see it through these platforms which makes them the ideal target
3- Throughout our assignment we were able to use the prior knowledge we had learned. Although we were aware of what camera angles, shots, and other terms meant on paper, applying this knowledge firsthand in our project fortified our understanding. Because we had to make sure that the viewers understood our message, working with the camera helped us better understand the importance of specific shots and what emotion was represented depending on the angle.
4- To film and edit the project, we used laptops and phones. Each clip was first uploaded to a computer after it was recorded on an iPhone for the scenes. From there, we combined each scene into a single video using the editing program: CapCut. From there, the video was returned to the phone so that audio could be added. To do this, we used CapCut to put the desired song into the commercial after using Spotify to find it. And finally, we received all of the ideas and inspiration from this commercial through research online!
I'll see you in the next one:)
