Critical Reflection

Our chosen social group is the victims of alcohol abuse and addiction. The general understanding of alcohol use is consistently represented in the media as casual and normal. Within the media all groups are seen with alcohol, no matter the age, race, or gender. Laws are in place to protect people from the effects of alcohol, as well as to inform them of the dangers it can bring. Media seems to nearly always ignore these laws in their productions for the sake of a relatable story. The average teenage movie will include people under the legal drinking age drinking far more than what could ever possibly be healthy, as well as with increasing frequency. This does nothing but promote a sense of normalcy on the topic, or, even more dangerously, a sense of  competition. The public lack of understanding of w

New Word: Additions

Image
Welcome Back! As we explained a few days ago the last time we spoke we had about a minute of content we needed to add to our film. We had decided to solve this challenge by filming a second day and give more content to put in the film. What content you may ask? Well we decided to add an additional minute of contextualizing where the main character is. We began with an establishing shot of the house where Marvin pulls in through the driveway. We divided it into 2 shots to provide variety and also give more opportunities for title cards as it was essential to include those. We then showed a pan shot of Marvin walking to the house and entering it, and cut to a shot from inside the house. We realized in the initial film Marvin has on an apron yet we never show how he got it, so in the last remaining additional scenes, we added 2 things. Firstly, we added a suit up scene. Here we had a shot of Marvin grabbing the apron and walking away. Next, we had a close up scene of Marvin putting on th

New Word: Filming

Welcome back! Today we finally were able to start filming! We decided to meet specifically on Friday to give ourselves the weekend to get through the editing process. While the initial plan was to get an uber together, lucky for us because of the new date Kyra's mother was actually available and could take us instead. Before we arrived to the production set however, we had to make a few necessary pitstops. Firstly we went to go purchase a few props we would need to enhance to film. We bought two things, the first being food coloring. In our final scene we have the protagonist bleeding, however due to obvious safety concerns, we couldn't have Marvin actually bleed. So instead, we opted to get the closest we could to fake blood. We did this through getting the red food dye, but also throwing in some black food dye to make it look more realistic and darker. The second purchase made was medical tubes. While we originally intended to use headphones as the tubes to portray a hospital

New Word: Setback

Image
Welcome back everyone, today we have a problem. As you were previously told we were set to record everything at my house this week. We were set to uber there and would film everything we needed to and begin the last stage of editing before we had finally finished this project. Until about 2 days ago, when I had felt myself throwing up, with 104 degree fevers, and unable to get myself out of bed. As if we didn't already have enough logistical problems ahead of us, I had fallen sick with BOTH types of Influenza, because just one wasn't enough. This unfortunately set us back about a week for production. This was incredibly unfortunate because as badly as we wanted to film, safety is our number one priority and we couldn't risk getting anyone in KAMY studios sick, even if it was too late for me. Our new date for filming will be in the first week of March, giving me plenty of time to recover and still keeping pace with our deadlines. I've already explained before that our g

New Word: Socials

Welcome back! With any film, exposure is a key part to the overall success of the movie. We knew an audience had to be prepared before we could actually release our film. Together we created a website, this website was the keystone connector to all our other platforms: Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. I was particularly tasked with our films Instagram page. It’s very common for film promotions to go through Instagram in forms of interactive videos, questionaries, and exclusive content leaks. I had friends and family follow the account to create the effect of success to outside audiences, making them more inclined to check out the page. I then decided to show the crew involved with the production, individually photographed. This had the express purpose of creating a sense of familiarity to our company for the target audience. Now there was a post with faces, names, and interactions. Putting a face to a company name allows for fan to create a more personalized connection. Our next post

New Word: Uber

Image
Welcome everyone, our group must film the crucial scenes of our movie this week, but we're on a time crunch, as we have so much conflicting schedules. We decided to meet this week and all film at my house. One problem however, I live quite far from our school and we have to record during a weekday. To get around this, we decided we'll all get an uber to share a ride. Uber is an app that allows you to book a car ride from one destination to another, but it can be a little pricey. However, it's a necessary expense and split between 4 people is relatively cheap. We're excited to film this week because of the small purchases I made that will greatly improve our quality of film. The first one is a tripod, which i actually purchased last year to help with my media project when I did AS level. It will help us have a steady angle and be able to pan the camera smoothly when needed. The second purchase are microphones I ordered off temu, which connect to my phone, that help with
