New Word: Filming

Welcome back! Today we finally were able to start filming! We decided to meet specifically on Friday to give ourselves the weekend to get through the editing process. While the initial plan was to get an uber together, lucky for us because of the new date Kyra's mother was actually available and could take us instead. Before we arrived to the production set however, we had to make a few necessary pitstops. Firstly we went to go purchase a few props we would need to enhance to film. We bought two things, the first being food coloring. In our final scene we have the protagonist bleeding, however due to obvious safety concerns, we couldn't have Marvin actually bleed. So instead, we opted to get the closest we could to fake blood. We did this through getting the red food dye, but also throwing in some black food dye to make it look more realistic and darker. The second purchase made was medical tubes. While we originally intended to use headphones as the tubes to portray a hospital scene, we learned that the tubes only costed 5 dollars to purchase so we decided it was a valid expense. After these two purchases we decided to also get candles to help show romance later on in the film. With these, we were off to a second and final pitstop: Burger King. We were very hungry and decided to boost our productivity it'd be best if we had a good lunch. Afterwards we arrived to the set we began the filming process. The biggest setback we faced was simple bloopers, for example there's one scene in which Marvin needs to flip a spatula and catch it. However Marvin is not the most coordinated. As a result, we spent about 30 minutes on that one shot alone. It was quite humorous to watch however, so I didn't really mind, besides we had plenty of time. There was only one slight problem however. Our film was designed to be 5 minutes long, however we didn't account for clips that would be sped up or cut, so from the raw versions of all the shots they were 5 minutes long, however in reality we only had 4 minutes worth of footage. This was a big problem as by this point everyone had already gone home. However, we had communicated and decided to have Marvin come over on Saturday and we would just film additional scenes to make up for the lost time. I'll be sure to update everyone on how that process goes, but for now I'll catch you all in the next one!
