New Word: Setback

Image
Welcome back everyone, today we have a problem. As you were previously told we were set to record everything at my house this week. We were set to uber there and would film everything we needed to and begin the last stage of editing before we had finally finished this project. Until about 2 days ago, when I had felt myself throwing up, with 104 degree fevers, and unable to get myself out of bed. As if we didn't already have enough logistical problems ahead of us, I had fallen sick with BOTH types of Influenza, because just one wasn't enough. This unfortunately set us back about a week for production. This was incredibly unfortunate because as badly as we wanted to film, safety is our number one priority and we couldn't risk getting anyone in KAMY studios sick, even if it was too late for me. Our new date for filming will be in the first week of March, giving me plenty of time to recover and still keeping pace with our deadlines. I've already explained before that our g

New Word: Socials

Welcome back! With any film, exposure is a key part to the overall success of the movie. We knew an audience had to be prepared before we could actually release our film. Together we created a website, this website was the keystone connector to all our other platforms: Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. I was particularly tasked with our films Instagram page. It’s very common for film promotions to go through Instagram in forms of interactive videos, questionaries, and exclusive content leaks. I had friends and family follow the account to create the effect of success to outside audiences, making them more inclined to check out the page. I then decided to show the crew involved with the production, individually photographed. This had the express purpose of creating a sense of familiarity to our company for the target audience. Now there was a post with faces, names, and interactions. Putting a face to a company name allows for fan to create a more personalized connection. Our next post

New Word: Uber

Image
Welcome everyone, our group must film the crucial scenes of our movie this week, but we're on a time crunch, as we have so much conflicting schedules. We decided to meet this week and all film at my house. One problem however, I live quite far from our school and we have to record during a weekday. To get around this, we decided we'll all get an uber to share a ride. Uber is an app that allows you to book a car ride from one destination to another, but it can be a little pricey. However, it's a necessary expense and split between 4 people is relatively cheap. We're excited to film this week because of the small purchases I made that will greatly improve our quality of film. The first one is a tripod, which i actually purchased last year to help with my media project when I did AS level. It will help us have a steady angle and be able to pan the camera smoothly when needed. The second purchase are microphones I ordered off temu, which connect to my phone, that help with

New Word: Location

Welcome everyone! We're reaching the final preparations before we start the actual filming process and become one step closer to wrapping things all up! However before we can do that, some big questions need to be solved for, for example, where exactly are we filming...? In this group it is I who had been tasked with answering this big question, so after much consideration, after sleepless nights, I've finally brought to the world an answer: My House! In all seriousness We're going be recording my house for a few key reasons. First is scenery, as the front of my house is very open and bright, with very little trees and not a lot of traffic as I live higher up from a lot of people. This is key because the openness of the area will allow for a pleasing establishing shot in the beginning of our film. The next reason why we chose my house was the internal layout of my house. By design, the kitchen counter in my house is an island counter, so they are no real walls blocking my

New Word: Car

Image
The climax shot for our film is the car crash scene. We carefully picked the vehicles we used to give a visual presentation even outside of the film. There is three vehicle options at our recording site, my house. A small gray car, a large gray van, and a big red car. Even within insurance companies coverage plans, red vehicles have higher insurance costs just due to their color and association with aggressive driving. Young men have the same pitfall, higher insurance costs because of how common aggressive and reckless driving practices are with them. Marvin is a visibly young man and we had clear access to a red vehicle, meaning our decision was practically set before we made it. Now we have two of the most common types of on road dangers, in insurance standards, for productional value. This car was also the safest option for our driver. There was no Marvin stun double, and while we were as careful as possible in recording the crash scene there was still safely concerns. We recorded a

New Word: Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan's latest film Oppenheimer  is arguably the best movie in his 15 years of filmmaking, a VERY impressive title to receive when you are the same man to make Interstellar , The Dark Knight, and Inception . As a mere student in a Film course I can only aspire to make movies with the same genius (and budget) as Christopher Nolan, however it does beg the question, what makes Oppenheimer stand out so well? Well aside from the brilliant writing and acting itself, Christopher Nolan's latest film has been so popular for what I've coined to be, "The Oppenheimer Shot". See the movie Oppenheimer, is a 3 hour long film about the creation of the Atomic Bomb, and the political, logistical, and ethical dilemmas Pulitzer prize winning Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer faced throughout the journey. In the film Christopher Nolan actually shows the audience the explosion from the first testing of the Atomic bomb, with one key detail about it. He never once uses CGI. CGI

New Word: Speaker

Image
Welcome back! For our film props are a very crucial aspect. When deciding how the movie would showcase the mentality of our character we ran through a few ideas. Music was the main choice to set specific themes for our viewers to perceive. Happy upbeat music that shows how the character is feeling in a moment. The way music was going to be utilized wasn’t just for the perception of the shot, it’s also a key part of how we see into our characters mind. The music had to be physically in the environment of the shot. We decided on a speaker that the character interacts with. We had to then tackle the issue of conveying to the audience how the mental state of the character is damaged through this speaker. In my garage I was lucky enough to come across a corded speaker, we realized that the electrical cord was the perfect casual visual queue. When recording the shot the character turns on this upbeat music, he is dancing singing clearly engaging with the music he hears. When the film changes

New Word: Debate

Image
Welcome back everyone! A key element in production is coordination, as we need to ensure everyone can do the part they can, when they can. This however implies taking all of our schedules into consideration, and finding the time where all 4 of us are available. For Kyra, Marvin, and Yaz this implies accounting for their volunteer events, and Mock Trial practice, and for me that means accounting for Debate. See I am the captain of my Debate Event, and it's something I really enjoy to do. However, the months of January to March are the bulkiest parts of the Debate season, where almost every weekend is one big tournament after the next. In the majority of the weekends of these months I've travelled to Boston to compete at Harvard, Atlanta to compete at Emory University, I've competed at Districts, the Florida State Championship, and National Qualifiers. These weekends are full of weekend tournaments and trips out of town, and it's important to communicate this schedule wi
