a lot of... Pizza!

As Lauren and I had planned, I had met at Lauren’s house and invited our 2 friends, Charlie, and Victoria, to help record our videos. I invited Charlie as he had already taken a year of AICE Media and understood what it was I was looking for in our shots. I also invited Vicky, in case I would need another person and because she lived right across the street from Lauren, it would’ve been fun plans to make and include her in. Our first order of business was to record the first shot in our storyboard. I figured to start here as I needed the studio equipment to use as props and I was only going to find those here. It took a couple shots as I realized this would be one of the longest shots in the music video, so to best assist our timing in the clip, I played the intro to the song on Lauren’s phone for Charlie to use as reference to optimize his timing for the shot. Shortly after I finished my first shot, I decided to jump ahead to one of the last shots in the music video, and work with our guest star: Buddy. Buddy is a Shih Tzu baby boy who Lauren happened to have a prisoner costume for him. Conveniently this works because a lyric in our Music videos talks about being in jail, so naturally I had to have Buddy have a cameo in our song. Buddy however like any famous star, had his diva moments. Buddy was shy with me and Charlie. He wouldn’t want us around him and would run away when we got nearby, even barking and growling at us. To resolve this, I stayed silently around buddy for a bit and occasionally brought treats next to us so he would come closer and gain trust and confidence with us. The group decided to use this time working with buddy as a break from shooting and I had decided to make pizza. Of all the treats I gave Buddy, the smell of pizza had intrigued him the most. Suddenly Buddy was able to put his biases and nerves towards us aside if it meant he would’ve gotten his preferred tasty savory treat. I decided to use Buddy’s newfound desires to our advantage, and put on the prisoner costume, recorded our shots of him, and were able to get what I needed from buddy by holding the pizza behind the camera to keep him invested and interested. After working with Buddy, he was properly compensated with a small slice and a few treats. Overall working with everyone, even Buddy, was a delightful, funny, and productive filming day, though I still needed a few shots. hope the viewers of this blog feel more connected with this Highschooler’s experience trying to take his music video to the next level with some high maintenance yet rewarding furry friends.

I’ll see you all in the next one:)
