a lot of.... Research!

For our music video, we chose the song A Lot by 21 Savage which is a rap song. We looked through many songs on Spotify and found that 21 Savage was our best option. After we found our song, we researched many music videos to try and come up with something we could make. In these music videos, usually, there are many different shots of the singer in different places singing their song. Every place they go to they have a different outfit and are with different people. In 21 Savage music videos, his costumes are usually simple suits or streetwear fits. The conventions in rap songs are usually the performer rapping towards the camera like they are talking to the audience. A lot of time they shoot these shots at a low angle. A lot of rap music videos are also known to be narrative-heavy and usually have a part where the rapper is lip-syncing. For example, we looked at Eminem's music video "Lose Yourself" and saw that half the time Eminem is lip-syncing the lyrics and the other is about his rap career. In many rap songs, it's common for the rapper to talk about wealth or even show off their money in their music video. They also show off cars or something they may be proud of. Another example is in the music video "Straightenin" by Migos. Right at the beginning of the music video, there are multiple cars that they are standing next to. There is also a shot of one of them sitting in a car with money on their lap while they are lip-syncing. For our ad, we are going to wear "rapper" outfits with hats. In our different shots, we will use many props. Some include money, shovels, water guns, plushies, headphones, and a microphone. Rap music videos also use a lot of rhetoric. They tend to use all three, ethos, pathos, and logos, but many videos use one of the other. An example from Kendrick Lamar in his music video "Ab-Souls Outro" he uses mostly ethos and uses the song to explain where he is coming from and why he can talk about such diverse subjects in a song. This research helped us make sure we incorporate what we saw into what we will make.
